Giving Tuesday Campaign 2022 Let's Eat!

We are now entering our final end of the year push for giving starting today, 11/22/22 with a week-long giving campaign that will conclude on Giving Tuesday (11/29/22). This time of year, we look to raise critical funds to help us not only sustain our efforts for the year ahead but to bring attention to our greatest needs and as we find ourselves in an uncertain economic climate, fundraising for us becomes even more critical if we are to survive and thrive as a humanitarian organization.

Last year during this time, this community was able to generate about $3,000 that supported our female health programs, an effort that was so needed and continues to be! Thank you! We were able to fund female sanitary pads, medicines, a safe space girl’s room, and offer female health and reproduction workshops! Amazing!

This year we are turning a slight focus to raising money for our ever expanding FOOD meals program…and by expanding, we mean with the cost.

CAN I HELP? YES!

It is not new news that global food costs have increased significantly. In general the cost to serve and the cost of provisions have ALL increased. In Rwanda specifically, we are finding that in order to provide the same quality and amount of food during our breakfast and lunch offerings, we need to spend nearly 50% more! OUr food budget alone for this coming year will top well over $10,000 to support 40+ children! The food meals program at Hope Shines is the LIFELINE and BASIS to all we do. Can you imagine trying to go to school hungry? How would you have the energy to learn? Can you imagine trying to stay on task or focus with an empty painful stomach? We can’t either. Without this program, our kids may get one meal a day and many will not make it to school due to being pulled out to help make money for food for the family. Additionally, our breakfast meal alone motivates kids to get up and get going…it brings them to the center to eat and gets them to school energetic and ready to learn. It’s more than just food.

The facts right now, is that Rwanda is facing its worst food inflation crisis in decades and ranks now second in Africa and eighth globally on the list of countries registering the highest food inflation at 41%.

Our fundraising goal for this year is $15K. No Donation is too small! Every dollar contributed brings us closer to our fundraising goal.
