Jacques Matabaro

Jacques is a joyful boy born in 2006 who lives with both parents, 3 brothers (one of them is a student at Hope Shines as well, Bertin) and 3 sisters in a 2 bedroom house with limited electricity in the city in a village called Gasiza. Neither of his parents have full-time jobs due to their limited skillset and education. His father tries to get some plumbing jobs but they are not well-paid and few and far between. When work is limited like this, the family suffers with hunger and can only eat one meal a day.

Recently, Jacques mother was hired by Hope Shines to provide and cook porridge flour to make meals for the kids during the after-school program. In this way, she helps to support her family as well as Hope Shines. She hopes that this opportunity will be something she can build on and therefore be able to provide for her family in a consistent way

Jacques is now in primary school and his favorite subject is Science. He loves to play with his friends at Hope Shines and at home, especially playing football (soccer). He even dreams of becoming a professional football player for Rwanda!
