Germain, alias Germie, is a funny boy, born in 2006. He lives in a very crowded home with his mother, 4 brothers and 3 sisters (his twin sister is also a student at Hope Shines, Germaine) in a small mud house with no electricity or access to clean water in a slum area of the city in the village called Muhoza, Kigali city. Germain’s mother doesn’t have a permanent job, but she does part-time work washing the clothes for other people and that happens to be the only source of income for the family.
Germain is often struggling with school because he is influenced by his elder brother who dropped out of school because the mother could not afford school fees. Hope Shines is following him up diligently so he can stay in school and succeed in life. Outside influences are always a challenge for these young children.

He is currently finishing up primary school and his favorite subject is English.
Despite his life challenges, Germain is always smiling and he is a very talented boy. He likes to dance (at Hope Shines especially the traditional dance), and he knows acrobatics very well. He is an athletic boy for sure! Germain's favorite sport is football and he likes to play it in his free time and every time he sees a ball at Hope Shines! It’s not a surprise that Germain wants to become a professional football player one day!
