Laurette was born in 2005 and is a very happy girl who lives with her mother and sister in a one bedroom house with limited electricity. Not too long ago her father abandoned the family and for a long time, Laurette didn’t have a permanent home. They hopped from house to house and were kicked out many times for not being able to pay the rent. The family income is very low and Laurette's mother can only sell vegetables on the road in her neighborhood.

Food security is a struggle for Laurette and her family. The family as a whole only eats once a day, but thanks to the help of Hope Shines support of laurette, their financial means increased and the family can have two meals in a day! Laurette always remained a happy child who encourages her mother to work very hard to be able to support the family.

“Laurette is that girl who is never discouraged by situations, hunger or other things. She always hopes for a better future and that makes me want to give her that better future she hopes for. But now that she is taken by Hope Shines I believe in that better future she dreams about.” says her mother. Laurette is mature beyond her age!

Laurette’s mother is also always trying to do the best she can to make sure her kids have everything they need. She checks regulary the homework of Laurette, if she has washed her uniform, etc. and understands that keeping her disciplined will result in a better future. Laurette likes to help in the house by cleaning regularly and washes the dishes and makes the bed.

Laurette is now succeeding in primary school, where her favorite subject is Mathematics. Her dream is to become an accountant and she wants to become more financially secure so she can support her mother and siblings. She wants to prove that her father was wrong for leaving the family. Laurette's favorite sport is volleyball, and at Hope Shines she loves the traditional dances practiced and performed every Saturday at the learning center.
